Preparation has begun for the annual Dungog Trail Running Festival next month, organised by Run Dungog.
Dan Lyons is part of a small group of volunteers who oragnise Run Dungog and is excited to be able to hold the event again on August 7.
"We tried to run it two years ago and we kept getting COVID so it's been a little bit of trying to put the boots back on," Mr Lyons said.
"We've stayed committed to making all the proceeds go to the runnings of the Dungog Shire Community Centre."
The day will kick off with a 20 kilometre trail run, followed by a 10 kilometre, 5 kilometre and the paid prize event known as the Royal Hotel Mountaineer, according to Mr Lyons.
The Royal Hotel Mountaineer is a 600 metre uphill sprint with a prize pool of $4000.
Originally, the Trail Running Festival was one event called The Dash and Dawdle, according to the manager of the Dungog Shire Community Centre Kate Murphy.
"The Dash and Dawdle was a five kilometre crawl, walk run, whatever pace you wanted to do from the Showground into the Common and back out again," Ms Murphy said.
"It's gradually evolved into an actual running event rather than just one race. That used to get interest from locals whereas this is no getting interest from all over the place."
After a two year hiatus, the Community Centre has struggled to find other revenues for funding, as a result in the July, 2022 council meeting they sought rental relief from Dungog Council.
Now that the event is being held again, Ms Murphy is excited to get some new programs off the ground.
"It's our main fundraiser, we get funding from the government and we can use a small part of those to support the centre but it's never enough. So by fundraising, it just means that we can continue to operate. It's really important to us," She said.
The Run Dungog Trail Running Festival is set to kick off on Sunday, August 7 at the Dungog Common.
