"The centre has been here providing support to our community for over 35 years," said centre manager Sarah U'Brien.
"We have been there for individuals through personal and family hardships. We have been there for our community through drought and flood.
"Now as we are all facing uncertain times with the evolving and devastating impacts of COVID-19 the Dungog Shire Community Centre is still here for you, your family, your community, supporting, caring and assisting in a variety of ways."
Mrs U'Brien said in a bid to reduce personal contact the centre was being creative in its approach to helping residents.
"While some of our services will be offered a bit differently and the ways we connect with you and support you and your family may look and feel a bit different, rest assured we are here and will remain here providing support, services and care to all."
The centre is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 1pm providing a Centerlink agency. Only two customers are permitted in the building at any one time. Upon entry everyone is asked to use the provided hand sanitiser. Emergency relief is available every Tuesday from 9am to 1pm. This service offers help with electricity, gas, phone and water bills; support with food, petrol and chemist costs and access to financial counselling services.
"We ask that you access this program through the community garden," said Mrs U'Brien. "Only one person will be permitted into the office at a time. We ask that you don't bring friends or family with you to Centerlink or Emergency Relief unless they are specifically needed to assist you."
The centre's youth team is continuing to support young people and their families. Instead of meeting face to face the team is talking over the phone, texting and face timing.
"They have also prepared some great family packs which can be posted, emailed or dropped off," said Mrs U'Brien.
