The students at St Joseph’s Primary School at Dungog don’t have far to travel to their Wednesday afternoon sport.
The school takes part in an afternoon of lawn bowls every Wednesday at the Dungog Bowling Club across the road from the school.
Under the tutelage of members of the club the children learn the basics of lawn bowling – and are having plenty of fun in the midst of it.
The Chronicle paid a visit to the club this week to see how much fun was being had – and discovered after talking to the students just how much skill, science and luck is involved in making that black bowl curve the way they want to hit the jack.
The children – and quite often their mentors – finish the day with an ice-block.
