This move is the result of long-term strategic planning aspirations of the preschool and an interest to reconnect with its history.
The preschool is currently working with planning consultants, heritage architects and Dungog Council to better understand the requirements to again use this site for early education.
The Dungog Community Preschool originally started as a small local playgroup at the St Andrew's Presbyterian Church hall in 1966.
"When I put the ad in the paper inviting those interested in a playgroup to a meeting at my home, from memory about six or seven women turned up," founder of the playgroup, Janet Newman said.
"We met a few times, others joined and we decided to expand to the Presbyterian Hall, whose elders had kindly allowed us to use for a couple of times a week."
The playgroup then blossomed into the thriving service it is today at 1 Chapman Street, Dungog.
The opportunity to use the original playgroup site reconnects Dungog Community Preschool with its heritage and honours the enduring legacy started by the original founders.
Dungog Community Preschool is reflective of the generous support from the Dungog community over the years.
It extends heartfelt thanks to all those people who have contributed their time, passion, and unwavering support to the preschool.
These include past, current and returning families and the dedicated volunteers of organisations such as the Rotary, Apex and Lions Clubs, and The Men's Shed.
These strong community connections and relationships underpin the culture and foundations of the preschool.
Whether it's volunteering during special events, contributing expertise in specific areas, or participating in fundraising activities, every form of support is crucial to the preschool's success.
Fundraising initiatives are on the horizon, and the preschool invites Dungog community members to share their suggestions, ideas, or questions via email at director@dungogpreschool.com.au.
