The removal is part of a special project to protect the area's unique biodiversity and to address biosecurity threats.
The work comes after increased reports of wild dog activity in the area during early spring.
The Mt Breckin project is being supported by a NSW Environmental Trust grant with contributions from Hunter Local Land Services.
Dungog Shire Council is also a contributing partner assisting with technical input on weeds.
A group of landholders occupying Mt Breckin attended a pest animal control training workshop run by Hunter Local Land Services to receive accredited training in controlling pest animals including wild dogs, foxes and rabbits. They also learned how to set traps for wild dogs.
Ten Motion cameras have been set up and are being rotated in the area, resulting in a number of dogs being sighted.
Over the last week, five dogs have been caught and removed and the trapping work will continue over coming weeks.
A Pest Animal Control Strategy will be developed specifically for Mt Breckin to ensure continued measures are put in place to reduce pests over the longer term.
