Dungog Garden Ramblers are the enthusiastic band of green thumbs organising the annual Dungog Garden Ramble. This year there will be eight gardens open for the event which will run from 9am until 4pm on Saturday, October 26.
The gardens to be featured are:
9 Carlton Avenue
134 Fosterton Road
43 Fosterton Road
Oakdale on Majors Creek Road Marshdale
72 Dowling Street
77 Mary Street
28 Mary Street and
82 Mackay Street.
Each of the gardens offers something different says one of the ramblers who helps organise the event, Avrina Schiller.
"We have an Australian cottage garden featuring lots of natives, a developing contemporary garden and a parklike, former dairy garden," she said.
Internationally renowned orchid and Clivia hybridiser Ken Russell's garden will be one of those featured and he will give a talk on the day.
The cost is $25 for entry to all gardens and a $20 pensioner ticket with individual gardens able to be accessed for $5 each.
Tickets will be available at each of the gardens on the day - or you can pre-purchase your "all garden access" from the Dungog Visitor Information Centre.
The group are using the hashtag #watchmygarden for Twitter and Instagram and have regular updates on their Dungog Garden Ramblers Facebook page.
The popular plant stalls will also feature home made goods and will be held at 9 Carlton Avenue and 134 Fosterton Road. These gardens will also offer an all day morning tea (with real tea in proper pots and teacups).
Prizes in the raffle include Bunnings vouchers, an online plants voucher, a couple of hours of garden work from Lou and Mel's Garden Care, a garden hamper and other products.
This year the group is running a Garden-Aid project which they hope will become an annual feature of the ramble where members help work on a garden to enable the owner to participate, who may not otherwise have been able to.
Proceeds will support local children's projects.
