There was some relief for the Warriors though when their Ladies League Tag squared the ledger with an equally convincing 18-4 win over the Cobras.
The much hyped men's clash between the first placed Cobras and second-placed Dungog turned into a one sided affair with Dungog having no answer to Clarence Town's first half onslaught.
It saw them go to the sheds with a 24-nil lead - and marked them as clearly the team to beat for the premiership.
Although the seven tries to two defeat was the Warriors worst performance of the season nothing can be taken away from the Cobras whose forwards dominated in the opening stanza.
The Cobras started with the downhill run and Dungog found themselves under the pump from the kickoff with a couple of dropped balls coupled with several penalties to the home side giving the Cobras a golden opportunity .
They took it with both hands crossing for a converted try inside five five minutes.
Dungog were struggling to handle the Cobra forwards and another try to Clarence Town put the lead out to 12 and it did not get any better - Clarro ran in three more tries before the beak.
Things started better for Dungog in the second half when Daniel Bates crossed early. Dungog were playing a lot better and although they stretched the defence, they could not breach the Cobras line.
Dungog more than held its own in the second half but it was too little too late - giving away 24 points start to the competition favourites was always going to be hard to overhaul.
