Residents are invited to set aside their Sunday for a beautiful drive from Paterson to Allynbrook to see all five gardens, some rarely open to the public.
There's breaks for coffee and lunch as you visit the following gardens:
Paterson - historic "Duninald" featuring wood and billabong, with owners on hand to fill you in on the history of the property, house and garden.
The original house constructed in 1823, now known as "Old Duninald" and lovingly restored by Julia and Chris Wokes, is situated on the edge of a substantial woodland created from the 1960s onwards by one of the descendants of the Dun family, Sidney Reynolds.
Vacy - "Burgmanns" in Lennoxton Road - a very personal and quirky garden, with surprises round every corner as you wander amongst an unusual array of plants and garden ornaments.
Gresford- "Cawarra" off Lostock Road - the original home of Dr Henry Lindeman of Lindeman's Wines, who is regarded as the founder of the Australian wine industry.
The property was established in 1843 and the house and outbuildings date from that time, together with many of the garden features.
St Mary-on-Allyn - Behind this stunning old church built in 1840, lies "Riverglen", nestled in a sweeping bend of the beautiful Allyn River, shaded by a multitude of trees and home to a wisteria arbour over 100 years old.
Allynbrook - "Allynbrook Park", the most modern of our gardens, with the backdrop of the Allyn River and some magnificent old trees. Its owners have included rock walls, vegetable garden and fruit trees, a fire pit, a stunning tree-lined driveway and much more.
Picnics can be purchased or pre-ordered at the Paterson Service Station Café, the Vacy General Store and Café and the Gresford Cross-Roads Café.
For those who would like to take home a plant or two, there will be a plant stall at St Mary-on-Allyn.
Gardens are open from 9am to 4pm.
Cost is $5 to enter each garden and all proceeds go to help the maintenance of the Gresford Arboretum.
