That’s the question Hunter Local Land Services is asking residents who live, work and play along the Paterson River.
The organisation will host a family friendly fair on Sunday, June 24 to allow the community to learn more about the river’s heritage and what can be done to work together to preserve it.
“The Paterson River is an integral part of the communities right along its banks, and we want to celebrate it,” said Penny Evans from Hunter Local Land Services.
The event at Paterson School of Arts Hall will feature renowned journalist Scott Bevan, who will speak from 10am on his love of the river and the important role it plays in the Hunter River catchment.
You will have the chance to win or purchase a copy of his book about his kayaking journey along the Hunter.
There will be plenty of entertainment for children as well with a reptile exhibit and hands on ‘mini beasts’ display.
The day will include stalls from different community groups involved in caring for the river, as well as displays from Hunter Local Land Services and other local agencies.
The Dungog Council weeds officer will be on hand to help you learn how to identify and control weeds that threaten the catchment.
There will also be a chance to tell us how important the river is to you, and how we can all work cooperatively to look after it.
Everyone is invited to stay for a free barbecue lunch.
To assist with catering, please RSVP by June 22 using https://hunterlls.wufoo.eu/forms/zwrkyyf099h8k8/.
There will also be a free native plant for all local landholders.
