The Warriors had no answer to the Griffins attack with their halves having a field day with the ball in hand and a faultless kicking game resulting in several tries.
The match started fairly evenly with both sides appearing evenly matched but once the Griffins put the ball in the air Dungog were on the back foot.
A cross field kick had the visitors crossing in the corner only to be disallowed for offside. A 40/20 kick not long after had them once again piling on the pressure which resulted in the first try of the game.
East Maitland were enjoying the lions share of possession with Dungog having trouble getting out of its own half and this turned into more points with another try midway through the half.
Things were looking ominous for Dungog when the Griffins halfback scored a great solo try and a penalty goal just before the break had Easts going to halftime with a commanding 20-0 lead.
Things started disastrously for Dungog after the resumption with another Griffins try from a kick with their first set of six. Another try soon after had the visitors with a 28 nil lead and things were starting to get worrying for Dungog.
However to their credit they more than held their own over the next 25 minutes having several chances to score but a few wayward passes and poor kicks failed to put any real pressure on the Griffins.
Another try to Easts inside the last 10 minutes extended its lead and just when it looked like being a whitewash Warriors centre Chris Sharkey provided one of the only bright spots on what was a bleak day both on and off the field when he went over for a try on the stroke of fulltime. Dungog’s next game is against Awabakal at Bennett Park on Sunday, June 17, kicking off at 2pm.
