The centre is inviting more people to join the existing team of volunteers in manning the Dowling Street premises.
Dungog Council’s Economic Development, Tourism and Events Co-ordinator Ivan Skaines said the volunteer role included various tasks such as providing information to visitors in person or on the phone on things to do in the area, what to see, accommodation options and about upcoming events.
Training is provided and volunteers will be with another person until they feel comfortable doing either a half day or full day on their own to suit their available.
Mr Skaines said the VIC can be a busy little centre at peak times and while there is a hard working core of 8-9 regular volunteers he would like to have up to 15.
“It also helps the volunteer learn what’s in their own backyard,” he said.
“While the volunteer role would suit people who are keen top sell our area to visitors is might also suit people who are looking at volunteering as way to gain more skills and experience to get back in to the workforce.”
The council and Dungog Regional Tourism have been working together to improve the operation of the VIC with internal improvements such as a new counter.
Jake Clifton and staff and Sale Glass Industries were involved in this work.
