Lovey’s Grocers IGA Dungog runs a “My Rewards” program which sees the store donate 50 per cent of the points earned directly to community organisations and charities chosen by the shoppers.
One point is earned for every dollar spent with the points used by members to save on their groceries and support community groups.
At a recent handover of last year’s funds and launch of this year’s program, Peter Trappel, Co-Owner of Lovey’s Grocers, thanked the volunteers and community groups involved.
“We believe there is great value in supporting organisations that support the people of Dungog, whether it’s providing great education and learning opportunities, healthy lifestyles through sport, social connections, activities for older people, emergency services and more,” said Mr Trappel.
“We are hoping to make the My Rewards program bigger and better in 2018, raising much needed funds for the amazing volunteer work that is achieved in our community.
“It’s free to join and to participate in the program. My Rewards members receive exclusive deals and specials. Right now, you’ll receive 500 bonus points for signing up in May and if you spend $50 you’ll go in the draw to win one of four $100 IGA gift cards.
“I’m very proud of the organisations associated with the My Rewards program and hope the whole community gets behind them.”
The Dungog Palliative Care Volunteers received more than $6000 in funding from the My Rewards Program.
President, Margaret Jones said she was very grateful to Lovey’s Grocers and the members who supported their organisation through the program.
“Our organisation helps people who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting or threatening illness,” said Mrs Jones
“This money will go a long way towards supporting people who need to travel to Newcastle for treatment and to provide other services like respite care, linen needs and equipment.
“Our volunteers are trained to provide care and are carefully selected and placed to offer the best support.
“From the first day someone is diagnosed their journey begins, and we are a caring, listening ear that the person and their family can lean on. It’s rewarding to give help where it is needed.”
