Coralie Nichols will take up the position on Monday, April 16.
Dungog has had an acting general manager since the middle of last year when Craig Deasey, who had held the position since 2005, resigned following the (then) council voting against his recommendation for a voluntary merger with Port Stephens Council.
Ms Nichols has worked in New South Wales, the Northern Territory and Queensland and her career spans more than 26 years predominantly in local government and in the not for profit sector.
For the last seven she has worked as the Director Community Services at Sunshine Coast Council in regional Queensland, serving the fourth largest population of any local government area in Australia.
Prior to this she was the Chief Executive Officer at Anglicare NT providing human services across the Northern Territory from Darwin to Alice Springs.
Her local government career also includes working at Kuring-gai Municipal Council and Hornsby Shire Council.
Ms Nichols has a Bachelor of Arts, a Graduate Diploma in Community Health and a Masters Degree in Management.
She is also a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and in 2017 she was a finalist in the Telstra Business Women’s Awards.
Making the announcement on Friday morning, Dungog Mayor Tracy Norman said Ms Nichols “has a unique and broad base of skills that includes executive leadership, lobbying and advocacy, community engagement, organisational transformation and change management.”
“Her skills are complemented by her strong commitment to community cohesion and inclusion,” said Cr Norman.
She is the mother of three children and has a keen interest in sport, the arts and equestrian events.
“She and her family are looking forward to becoming a part of the Dungog community and working with councillors and council staff to build upon and promote all that the Shire has to offer,” said Cr Norman.
