The show, run by the Gresford District Agricultural Society, began in 1927 and has run annually since, save for a couple of missed years during World War II, showcasing to the general public the horticulture and other agricultural pursuits of the area.
“We are proud of this fine tradition of providing encouragement for participants, both local and further afield, in events such as horse and livestock judging; horse riding; fruit and vegetable judging; horticulture; cooking; art and craft, in a spirit of friendly competition,” show secretary Rosalie Lawrence said.
”Generally speaking on Friday the camp draft and horse events begin around 8am and finish about 4pm to 5pm depending on entries.
“Saturday the horse and cattle events start at 8am and go through to 2pm. The pavillions are open from 9am each day.
“The main entertainment is on the Saturday in the main ring and begins after the official opening at 2.30pm hosted this year by comedian and bush poet Murray Hartin.”
Feature events include the animal nursery which opens from 9am at the side of the Cavvy's pavillion.
On the Saturday there will be a pet parade at 10am and gourmet sausage competition at 11am on the grassed area.
The grand parade and official opening starts from 2.30pm followed by the heavy horse obstacle and camp draft final.
Thereafter you’ll see the woodchop final, post cut final and barrell challenge, bullock ride and Calcutta.
A kids disco runs from about 6pm-9pm, while out on the track the Mudrunners will put in four hot laps before the fireworks get underway at approximately 9pm. Thereafter DJ music will continue into the later hours.
“There will be barbecue facilities in operation throughout the two days, CWA dining room will be in action and some food vans for food option,” Rosalie said.
Ms Lawrences expressed special thanks to all the sponsors.
“We would not be able to run our show without them,” she said. “There too many to name individually but you can check out the list on our website: www.gresfordshow.com.au.
“GDAS hopes that people will come along to the Gresford Show and support what is a great Country Show as well as supporting rural people in general who have been through some tough times lately.
“It's a great show, family friendly and a good day out.”
