Organisers of the new-look Dungog Festival promise there’s lots to be excited about for next year’s event.
Dungog Arts Foundation, founded to ensure the Dungog Festival is locally driven and forever community owned, is up and planning again for the 2018 festival to be held over the October long weekend (September 29 – October 1.)
While the now-famed Long Table Dinner, a film program from The James, a street parade and great food and music are still on the agenda, there'll be a new free Sunday Street Party, Sculpture on the Farm, multiple Art Shows, Octoberfest, and egg & spoon races.
The goal of the Dungog Festival, born in the aftermath of the former Dungog Film Festival, was always to encourage the Arts - but originally still primarily concentrated on film. The scope of the Festival has continually widened to include food, music, rural lifestyle and the visual arts.
During the year the key organisers gathered to hold a strategy planning session. This was followed by a well-attended public meeting, out of all of which has emerged a new, exciting three year strategy.
Foundation Director Michael Atkins, said the goal is forever to be community-owned; to celebrate while sharing all those things that we love in Dungog and make our valley thrive by promoting the area.
“The best thing is with this new-look festival, there's a plan for every purse and every age,” he said.
“There'll be more free fun to be had by everyone from eight to 80.'
In the years the Festival has been operating there has been a great growth of the visual Arts in Dungog, and this will be one of the features of the new program.
Dungog Arts Foundation invites any local organisation, profit or not-for-profit, to show their wares, raise money for their cause, advertise their own event or even join the Street Parade.
“This is a community Festival, celebrating all that is great in Dungog, and we want to hear from organisations or individuals who have something to share,” says Michael.
