Vane-Wood and Bridges had SMR reeling at 4-32. The SMR batsman found Bridges incredibly difficult to get away. He finished with the amazing figures of 2-1 off eight overs, including seven maidens.
SMR’s captain Justin Dalley (29) and Jordan Willard (15) offered some resistance to combine to lift the score to 54.
Rodney Faulkner ended their partnership capturing both batsman in a devastating spell of 3-5 of three overs to take the bowling honours for the day.
Vane-Wood finished with 3-19 and Paterson captain Russell Presland 1-17 as SMR manged 77 in 28.2 overs.
Paterson openers Ramsey Vane-Wood (12) and Matthew Jones (13) both made starts but fell just four runs apart to leave the run chase at 2-28.
David Puxty and Chris Merchant made sure of the target finishing unbeaten on 30 and 20 respectively as Paterson reached their target in just 15 overs with eight wickets to spare.
The win lifts Paterson to second on the ladder on nine points equal with Port Stephens 2nd XI in third. Port’s 1st XI tops the table with three wins from their three games.
Raworth Rabittosh and fourth equal on six points with fifth placed Lochinvar.
Paterson host the Rabittohs in what is shaping up as the match of the round this weekend.
Paterson’s C-grade team lost to Fred Harvey Memorial at Woodberry Oval on Saturday.
They are third on the table with 11 points from two wins and a draw from their four games, just behind Fred Harvey Memborial on 12, with the Kurri Kookaburras topping the table also on 12.
Paterson’s C-grade takes on the Belmore Hotel at Roy Jordan Oval this Saturday.
Junior cricket
Rain forced the cancellation of several junior games on the weekend as Dungog’s under-13 team suffered a rare loss.
The team, which claimed the under-12 major and minor premiership, lost to Thornton on Saturday, but not before putting up a strong fight.
Thomas Lovegrove made 24 and Jack Boyton 16 as Dungog made 4/82 from their 24 overs.
In under-12s, Gresford Vacy Colts made top of the table Thornton work hard for victory at Lakeside No.3 on Saturday.
Gresford made 9/81 with Sam Hartigan top scoring with 17 and Hayden Wilson 12.
In reply Thornton made 5/96. Gresford shared the wicket around with Lochlon Fitzpatrick (1-12), Daniel Craig (1-10), Sam Hartigan 1-1 and Patrick Gillespie (1-8) all getting a wicket.
