James Packer's star-studded team Ellerston has taken out the Mackay Cup beating home club Wirragulla in the A-grade final at the Hunter Polo Challenge.
Wirragulla got revenge in the B-grade grand final beating Ellerston Black, with Tamarang defeating Lone Wolf in C-grade.
Wirragulla Polo Club president Beau Blundell it was a great weekend weekend on an off the field and to win the B-grade final and make the A-grade final was a tremendous effort by the club.
“Ellerston is owned by James Packer, east of Scone, and home to the biggest and best horses in Australia and arguably the world,” Blundell said.
“We were very pleased to make the final of our home tournament and to go down to a team like Ellerston is certainly no disgrace.”
Blundell said this year’s tournament had firmly cemented the events place on the polo calendar.
“We had 12 teams across three grades, which is a great achievement. Crowd numbers certainly was bigger than any previous year.”
