This Thursday, September 21, members and friends of the chamber will meet for our AGM and dinner meeting at the Settlers Arms, Dungog, which will mark the end of our 2016/17 year.
With many highlights, accomplishments, and challenges throughout the year, we look forward to the coming year and the opportunities that it will bring. In particular, we look forward to a continued good working relationship with our newly appointed local council representatives.
Our successful candidates have a great amount of experience, with two former mayors, former councillors and also a number of new faces eager to share their fresh ideas to benefit the community.
The chamber, together with the whole community I am sure, look forward to working with a positive and united council that will continue to drive this region with positive thinking, strong leadership, and broad community support.
Members and guests are welcome to attend our AGM on Thursday, 6.30pm, at the Settlers Arms. Bookings are essential for the dinner and can be made by contacting Colleen Duffy at dinner@ddcc.org.au or telephone 0400 603 403.
Despite some recent comments, I am sure many will have noticed the number of new businesses that have opened in Dowling Street over the past few months. Together with the relocation of the Dungog Arts Society, there appears to be few vacant shops.
So now is the time to get out and explore not only these new businesses but support our many unique local businesses. Don’t underestimate the positive impact of supporting local business. We have some fantastic businesses stocking a wide range of products and offering some great local services. It may surprise you what is on offer so take some time to visit – you might just find what you are looking for. Many local businesses are also more than happy to order what you require or to issue you with a gift voucher - all you need to do is ask.
Overall, it is important to shop locally to encourage the health and sustainability of your local community.
You will also be encouraging community engagement whilst creating long-term relationships and promoting loyalty within your community. Let’s encourage local prosperity. At the most basic level, when you buy local more money stays in the community.
