This iconic event is now in its 57th year and will be held on Saturday, July 8.

We’ve taken a trip down memory lane to show you a selection of photos from the fabulous event from years gone by,

Last year more than 120 men, women and children entered the competition and numbers are expected to increase this year. 

The fun starts with a street parade at 10.30am in Cowper Street with a “back to the future” theme.

Federal MP David Gillespie will throw the first brick at the Stroud showground to declare the competition open.

In 1960 the Strouds in the United Kingdom and USA, both brick-making towns, held the first bricking-throwing contest.  Australia and Canada joined in 1961 and the following year Australia suggested including a women’s rolling pin contest. 

With a  population of 701 “our”  Stroud, is now the only Stroud in the world to continue this wacky tradition for nearly six decades.

Traditionally, the male event includes throwing a brick which weighs five pounds (2.268kg).

Women get to fling a specialised rolling pin weighing in at two pound, with children chucking a rubber chicken.

Karen Hutchinson from the Stroud Brickthrowing Association said as well as old favourites, this year has some new attractions for families.

This year’s entertainment include oversized children’s games – a jumbo egg and spoon for races, giant pick up sticks and a giant hopscotch. A four metre squared velcro dart board is also a new addition to the fun.

Greg Nash will perform a  Medieval Skill at Arms display and renowned entertainer Lucky Starr will take the stage.

Newcastle’s United Ford Owners Club will have a display of  more than 300 classic and vintage cars on display.

Entry is $10 for adults and $5 for children with a family ticket for two adults and two children $25.
