Fancy yourself a speedy knitter? Each year teams around the world race against the clock to shear the sheep, spin the wool and knit a jumper, all in under eight hours. Their times are then lodged with international adjudicators who announce the winners on the June long weekend.
The "Spinning Knitwits" are a team of members from the Newcastle Spinners and Weavers Guild made up of seven specialist spinners and knitters with shearer Trevor Pike from Scone as their key team member.
They have competed in this competition held at Tocal for 10 years and currently retain the title of Australian Champions. This year at Tocal they bettered their own time by five minutes.
A Netherlands team broke the world record which had been held by a Merriwa team for the past 15 years.
