Three Novocastrian filmmakers are returning to make a film in Dungog and are seeking community help to make it a reality.
Producer Catherine Williams, Writer/Director Heidi Lee Douglas and Director of Photography Meg White are collaborating on Devil Woman, an environmental horror movie that will be filmed at Wangat Lodge this month.
“Devil Woman is about the power of nature and human conflict over the environment, and its dramatic thriller format will entertain audiences worldwide” said Ms Douglas who has family links to the Martins Creek area.
She said actors from the Newcastle and the Central Coast areas gained the lead roles for film.
“We auditioned widely in Sydney but these local actors all bring a lived experience to their roles, a real empathy and complexity to the characters that is vital,” she said.
The lead actors are Marigold Pazar, Flame Kimball, Peter Healy and Shaun Anthony Robinson.
The team includes stunt co-ordinator Dean Gould who is based on the Central Coast and has done stunts for Superman, Star wars and a special effects makeup artist from Game of Thrones, Rachel Coenen.
The production is being sponsored by Ken Rubelli, so cast and crew are staying at Wangat Lodge and shooting on his private land.
The filmmakers need community to help bring this to story to life and are running a crowd funding campaign to cover the hard costs of the production - professional lighting rigs, camera and lens hire, Special Effects Make Up, a Stunt Coordinator, Safety Officer and insurance cover.
They are offering rewards for all donations, including your name in the credits, tee shirts, exclusive tickets to the premiere, corporate sponsorship rewards, and on-set visits.
“Crowdfunding a film gives audiences a voice in deciding what films get made,” said Executive Producer Enzo Tedeschi.
He said women are underrepresented in the Australian film industry and supporting Devil Woman people will be making a tangible, positive change.
