Thousands of people turned out to pay their respects to Australia’s servicemen and women at Anzac Day services around Cessnock City on Tuesday.

The Cessnock TAFE grounds were overflowing as the crowd gathered for the 11.30am service, following the march in Vincent Street (which included hundreds of local school children).
Mid-morning services were also held at Abermain, Weston, Aberdare, Branxton, Greta and Kurri Kurri.
A bumper crowd gathered at the Cessnock War Memorial for the 5.30am service.
By popular demand, Grant Collins performed a haunting version of ‘And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda’ at the Cessnock dawn service (see the video below).
Dawn services were also held at Branxton, Greta, Kearsley, Kurri Kurri, Millfield, Paxton and Wollombi.
