“We had floods in April 2015 and January 2016,” NSW SES Dungog unit controller Matthew Too said.
“While the April flood was disastrous and caught many by surprise, the January flood was far less destructive.
“The SES was better prepared and responded quickly to the summer storm that brought with it a deluge of rainfall on the upper catchment.
“Our volunteers trained in swift water rescue were on standby and the homes in immediate risk of flooding were evacuated.
“The floodwaters subsided overnight and residents were able to return safely to their homes the following day.”

Volunteering for the SES has many benefits beyond serving the district.
“It’s good to gain new skills and make new friendships and give back to the community,” Mr Too said.
“You can get officially recognised qualifications, and you don’t necessarily have to be on the front line.
“There’s whole host of logistical areas, like IT and internet-based operating systems where you can contribute.”
NSW SES Dungog unit is recruiting for new members, so now is an ideal time to join.
People are welcome to drop in to training any Monday night between 7pm and 9pm at the SES headquarters on Clarence Town Road, Dungog, just as you enter town.”
