Dungog has been chosen as one of the locations for the new mini-series called The Secret Daughter. Maubiy has been cast as the lead in the series and was in Dungog on Tuesday to begin filming on location.
Emma, 12, loves Mauboy for her music, her fashion and her movies. She begged her mother Rachel Haskins to search for the star and off they went with two friends in tow to find Mauboy.
“She asked her friends Jade and Abbey to come and we went looking,” mother Rachel Haskins said.
“We spotted her in the RSL car park but then she disappeared. We talked to the crew and they told us she had gone down to the main street to film, so we waited and waited and eventually she finished and came to talk to the girls.
“She was absolutely lovely.”
Emma could not contain her nerves when she met the star. The Hunter School of Performing Arts student took the opportunity to get a photograph with Mauboy to show her friends at school on Wednesday.
“She started talking to us about the movie, she was really nice,” Emma said.
“She said she loved the mountains in Dungog and she felt like they were giving her a big hug.”
The meeting was the perfect end to the school holidays and Emma will cherish the photograph forever.
Film crews arrived in town last week, but filming did not start until Tuesday and will continue to Friday.
The Secret Daughter is a Seven production and stars Mauboy who has been cast as Billie Carter, a part-time country pub singer whose life changes forever after a chance meeting with wealthy city hotelier Jack Norton, played by acting great Colin Friels.
Bonnie Sveen from Home and Away will play Billie’s best friend Layla.
“Jessica Mauboy is an amazing talent and this is a terrific yarn full of warmth, humour and music and we can’t wait to share it with everyone,” Seven’s director of network production Brad Lyons said.
On Wednesday the cameras will be in Abelard Street, Fosterton Road and the Williams River bridge on Stroud Hill Road.
Thursday will see filming in Dowling Street and the Bank Hotel and Friday at the showground, Redman Lane and the top of Chapman Street.
A helicopter will also be filming on Friday.
