Nearly 15,000 homes and businesses were without power on Monday afternoon following a severe storm in the Stroud area.

Essential Energy customers across the upper Hunter and lower Mid North Coast were without power following a fault on the network at the Stroud sub-station.
An Essential Energy spokesperson said the fault appeared to be caused by a lightning strike, however this hasn’t been confirmed.
“The unplanned outage affected 14,200 customers from 5.20pm in Dungog, Stroud, Gloucester, Bulahdelah, Seal Rocks, Pacific Palms, Coomba Park and all surrounding areas,” the spokesperson said.
“Essential Energy crews were able to restore power to 9000 customers in the upper Hunter by 7.30pm with crews continuing to work further north restoring supply to a further 3000 at 8.30pm.
“Essential Energy is continuing to investigate the cause of the fault which triggered the network’s safety equipment, turning supply off until crews were able to confirm the safety of the network and that it was free of hazards that had been reported by customers.”
Power was restored to all customers by 11pm.
A tree fell over the road on the Dungog side of Stroud Hill Road on Monday afternoon.
It was partly removed by Dungog Shire Council workers to allow traffic through with rest cleaned up on Tuesday morning.
