“Martha and William” will be launched at the Dungog CWA rooms at 4pm on Thursday March 17.
In 1852, William Dove of Bristol, sails to Australia hoping to become a clergyman there.
He spends the next seven years writing home to his sweetheart, Martha, begging her to come and join him.
Based on an extraordinary and intimate collection of letters from the 1850's, the book is a historical novel, a glimpse of the lives of immigrants to Australia and, in particular, to the Hunter Valley.
This is a story of joys and hopes, sorrows and disappointments.
Above all, it is a story of courage, steadfastness, and true love.
Please join us to celebrate the launch with a glass of champagne.
