The annual event will begin on Thursday night with nine showgirls representing the region, to be judged and presented at the art show opening. The event, which starts at 6pm at the art show pavilion, is open to everyone.
“The main part of the show will begin on Friday with the local horse and rider combinations in the stockhorse ring,” Mr Capp said. “Three or four campdrafts will also be held during the day, and despite both Muswellbrook and Gloucester also holding their shows this weekend, we are hoping to have 300 entries for the day.
“We have had $1000 donated for the winner of the open campdraft so there is good money to be won. Judging will also begin in the pavilions with the best of the region’s produce, flowers, jams and cakes vying for that coveted blue ribbon. Having just come out of a great season weather-wise, there should be some great produce and flowers to the judges to preside over.”
A new event this year is the Torryburn Horse Stud Off the Track series which will see former race horses now being paraded in led classes and ridden in hack events.
John Cornish approached the show committee quite a few months ago to see if the event could be staged at Gresford this year.
“The event is run state wide, but this is the first time it has been held at Gresford,” Mr Capp said. “The horse has to have had a barrier trial or raced to compete.
“Obviously there would be many horses out there who are retired or just weren’t fast enough and we are hoping this event will attract quite a bit of interest. Mr Cornish has put up $1000 prizemoney and it will be held around 1.30pm, just before the grand parade an hour later.”
It’s been more than 20 years since an exhibition bullock ride has been held at the show, so this could be a first for many patrons.
Other entertainment includes the Ski-Boom Ski and Flea Circus Show throughout the afternoon, horse-carriage races and of course the anticipated fireworks which will be followed by the kids disco which will also be fun for the older patrons.
