Although the home side are situated towards the bottom of the ladder they have never really had a thrashing and have recorded their only win and some very close loses at their home ground.
Things looked promising for the Cobras when lock Ben Bradley scored a fantastic individual forwards try in the seventh minute.
From 30 metres out he ran off a lovely pass from Middleton steamrolling the initial couple of defenders as he twisted and turned to carry a few more for the last five metres to plant the ball over the line next to the posts.
Badior added the extras for a 6-0 lead.
Unfortunately Claro were visited by an old foe soon after scoring the try.
A simple error enabled the home side good field position and add to that a misread of play and the Pirates were in for the equalising try.
The missed conversion left Claro in front 6-4.
Midway through the half it was the same result an error, followed by a penalty and then another poor read and the Carrington winger was in the corner to take the lead at 8-6.
The game seemed quite frustrating as a spectacle.
On several occasions the Cobras lacked patience in attack although to be fair to the players there were a number of refereeing decisions that left both teams and spectators perplexed with the interpretations of the rules.
Shortly before the break Badior outsmarted the markers to cross next to the posts and stretch the Cobras lead to 12-8.
No sooner had this happened and the Pirates put the game back in their possession right on the halftime siren by scoring a converted try and boost their confidence taking a 14-12 lead into the second half.
The Cobras needed to fix a few fundamental things to improve on their average first half display but that didn’t seem to be the case as the Pirates posted first points after the break to extend their lead to 20-12.
But to their credit the whole Claro team kicked into another gear from that point on.
Bradley picked up a double when he again proved too strong to score his second try and just four minutes later Brad Johnson burst on to a pass and raced 30 metres to score and give the Cobras a 24-20 lead.
At the 65th minute Trappel took full advantage of the Claro momentum when he dummied and stepped through the opposition to stretch the lead further out to 30-20 and Kieran Hinton continued his good form by adding the final try with a clever piece of back row work.
The final score was in the end a comfortable victory to the Cobras but they will need to show more patience and be more decisive in their execution when they take on the competition leaders Kotara next week.
