As well as some splendid costumes and masks, guests enjoyed an energetic floor show from the Gondoliers Of Love, direct from Venice (and Bingleburra and Mount Rivers) and a scrumptious repast from Marisa Groves.
The auction, led by the inestimable Peter Dillon, emptied a few pockets and left smiles on the lucky winners.
A highlight was a dancing and seduction lesson, with gondolier Michelangelo falling heavily for a gorgeous widow, the Contessa.
All up the night made over $5000 for the community college.
It was a great result for the function’s first year.
Gold Sponsor BCA National covered the cost of the super-dancy Big Bang Trio.
There were numerous other sponsors and donors.
“We see this as a great result,” said coordinator Jane Richens, “not only financially, but also in the level of commitment and support people of the shire have shown to our little adult education hub.”
Gondolier and education officer John “Giovanni” O’Brien agreed.
“And we couldn’t have done it without all those sponsors and donors, our ball volunteer Deb Hicks, everyone at the Dungog Shire Community Centre, our little committee, the great bar staff, our photographer Aimee Harris and the funky DJ Ashtray.
“Oh and everyone who got up and danced,” he said.
“If people missed out this year,” said Richens, “we’re intending to make the Dungog Masked Ball an annual event
“We’ll announce the theme soon so the really keen ones can get started on their creations!”
Sounds like a seriously fun highlight to the Dungog social calendar.
