Carolyn and Tavis Chivers have purchased the centre and changed the name to Joeys.
Diploma-trained Carolyn was working at the centre when the opportunity presented itself.
“It was too good an opportunity to turn down so Tavis and I took over on April 7,” Carolyn said.
“I have always been passionate about children since I left school and so that is part of the reason I did the course and am now studying for my early childhood university degree.
“The staff here will remain the same and we will still be open from 6.30am to 6.30pm 50 weeks a year.
“Joeys is still child benefit approved and we will still continue to have before and after school care.”
The centre has 13 staff on hand including a fulltime cook who provides all the meals.
Approved to have 44 children a day, the centre also runs the formal transition to school program.
“We also have a teeth brushing program which follows on from the Pacific Smiles dental program,” Carolyn said.
“Every child is given a tooth brush and they all brush their teeth after lunch.”
The couple has two children – Dane, four, and Ethan, two.
