It will make its maiden flight on Easter Saturday on Park Street, East Gresford.
The builder of the plane Tom Wright and his sons from Morpeth have combined to construct this amazing billy cart and will test flight it in this year’s event.
Mr Wright said he has not had time to test drive and fly the plane and is concerned about the speed it will get up to as it races down the track in Gresford.
His design is so exact that once the plane gets to a certain speed it may actually lift off and start flying.
Mr Wright has always been an innovator when it comes to billy carts with his last aerodynamic design shaped like a lead pencil and while it was great to look at it did not draw enough speed to win his event.
Billy cart committee member Graham Murphy said this year, with his son’s help, they believe they have hit on a winning formula by reducing the friction on the road and taking to the air.
“They have not tested the billy cart to see how high it might get and how it will handle in the air but they are confident they will leave the competition behind as they fly over the finishing line.”
Mr Wright said they have built in a voice activator that reacts to the roar of the crowd and will assist to get the plane off the ground.
The billy cart derby committee would love to have its own airborne billy cart so they are inviting all children, mums and dads, nans and pops to come along and cheer as loud as they can to see if we can get the plane off the ground and fly over the finishing line.
There is only one place to be this coming Easter Saturday and it is at East Gresford for one of the best fun events on this year’s calendar.
It has something for everyone, huge toolbox full of tools for Dad in the monster raffle, market stalls with everything mum could possibly want, yummies and amusement rides for the kids.
Come and have a go at the gumboot throwing competition, have a bet in the cowpat lotto.
Most importantly come along and cheer on your favourite billy cart.
The weather will be fine, the racing will be fun, the excitement is great and seeing you there will be perfect.
Racing commences at 9am.
