The EDP is the result of six months of research, reflection and conversation with our community.
While Council has played a central role in the plan's development, it is first and foremost the community's plan to shape the future economic growth for our shire.
Presented as 40 actions under the five themes of Identity, Infrastructure, Industry, Innovation and Income, the EDP outlines a roadmap for the future prosperity of Dungog Shire.
It not only defines our community's aspirations in the areas of economic development, but sets a bold direction on where we aim to be in four years.
The Economic Development Plan's goal is to maintain an average growth rate of between 1 per cent - 2 per cent per year, allowing for infrastructure investments to keep up with business and population growth.
A faster growth rate may not be possible given that Council has limited resources, a significant backlog of infrastructure projects and small ratepayer base.
The draft EDP went live on our website yesterday and will be on public exhibition for 28 days.
From there, a further report will be provided back to Council to consider any submissions received prior to adopting the EDP.

Services Australia's Mobile Service Centre 'Blue Gum' has been in Dungog to offer help and support to flood-impacted residents.
The staff on board were able to help local residents access disaster payments such as the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment and the Disaster Recovery Allowance, in addition to other Centrelink, Medicare and Child Support business.
The Blue Gum will be at Clarence Town on Thursday, August 11, opposite the IGA in Grey Street from 9am to 3pm.
Members from our Infrastructure and Assets management team did a thorough inspection on Monkerai Road recently and sadly the landslip that has occurred from the flooding is extensive and going to take quite some time to repair.
As you can see from the photo below in the Council Happening's update, much of the earth that supports the road has washed away.
Thank you to our crews who continue to work on road and bridge recovery and inspecting our parks and playgrounds to ensure they're safe for our community once again.
