After weeks of cancelled games, short numbers and injuries, the Boomerangs finally got their first win over Maitland Football Club, beating them 4-0.
The Boomerangs had played Maitland the previous week in a nail-biting 2-1 loss and they were feeling the pressure.
Kicking off at Maitland's Fieldsend Oval at the weekend with no bench, Dungog did a great job absorbing Maitland's early pressure.
Off a quick counter attack, Dungog scored the first goal of the game early, with Dungog's striker Brock Thomas bringing the score to 1-0.
From here, Dungog went on to dominate the first half. Defenders Michael Wade and Hamish MacCormick made sure that any attacking plays from Maitland were shut down before posing any real danger.
Ashley Rowe went on to score another goal for Dungog, quickly followed by another goal by Thomas, bringing the score at the end of the first half to 3 - 0.
As the second half kicked off, the lack of substitutes and fitness began to show and Dungog's domination began to dwindle.
This was not helped by Maitland's tenacity as they refused to give up without a fight, coming out in the second half with a renewed intensity that Dungog struggled to match.
Much of the second half was spent dealing with Maitland's faster and younger attacking side, however Dungog's goalkeeper, Chris Lummas, once again proved his worth and kept Dungog's clean sheet.
Halfway through the second half, catastrophe struck Maitland as their goalkeeper went down with an injury.
As he was carried off, Dungog players got a much needed breather and gathered themselves before play continued.
In a big counter attack, Rowe managed to cross the ball into Maitland's box and in his first ever game of soccer, new recruit Sheldon Hicks, scored a screamer of a goal, bringing the score to 4 - 0.
Despite their renewed efforts, Maitland were unable to penetrate Dungog's defence and Lummas' goalkeeping prowess, leaving the final score to be 4 - 0.
This win was made all the more impressive by the fact that Dungog had no substitutes against Maitland's constantly rotating bench.
Players' player went to the new Sheldon Hicks, closely followed by Dungog's striker Brock Thomas.
This win has taken Dungog off of the bottom rung of the ladder and onto second last, chasing Gresford Vacy FC by just two points.
The competition is still being dominated by Raymond Terrace who lead the ladder by four points with seven wins and no losses.
The Boomerangs next game is a bottom of the table clash against the neighbouring Gresford Vacy FC.
Previously, Dungog have played Gresford Vacy in their first ever game together, with Dungog losing convincingly, however a lot has been learnt since then and Dungog has some new recruits.
Kick off is set for 1.30pm at Gresford Oval.
