Dungog council has announced that the library will be closing as preparation begins for demolition and construction.

Dungog Library will remain closed until the upgrades are complete, however an interim library located in the Doug Walters Pavilion is being prepared and is expected to open on Monday, July 4.

This interim library will not be able to offer the full range of library services.
The closure follows Dungog council accepting a tender from Connex Management and Construction for the Dungog Library Upgrade project.
"This will allow sufficient time for staff to clear the site and transport materials to both storage and the Doug Walters Pavilion," Council staff said.
The upgrades, which are set to be the most significant refurbishment of the library in 40 years, will aim to expand and modernise the current library facility. These upgrades are expected to cost a little over $1 million.
Council will fund this project using $500,000 from the NSW State Library Public Library Infrastructure Grant, $330,000 from the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, and a further $220,000 from developer contributions.
These upgrades also include an amenities block for Bruyn Park/Jubilee Park.
The development of an amenities block aims to improve accesibility and services to the smaller park, as well as other close by parks.
The block will be funded using $75,000 in the form of a Hunter Water grant, and Round 3 of Local Roads and Community Infrastructure funding.
