Dungog Council's General Manager, Gareth Curtis thinks that although the quality of candidates were strong Mr Ryan was the standout choice.
"I'm confident that Mr Ryan's significant skills and expertise will help us to achieve our collective goals. I'm very pleased to have him joining our team," Mr Curtis said.
"This new Director position will have a significant influence on the future and prosperity of our region."
Mr Ryan's resume is relatively robust, highlighting his experience as the Programs Manager for Port Stephens council, Planning and Design Manager for the Newcastle Airport and a two-year career in the Central Coast Council.
As a part of this new job, Mr Ryan will be working on the Land and Environment Plan and the Rural Land Strategy that Dungog council is currently working on.
Although he has never worked in Dungog before, Mr Ryan has been a distant admirer of the town.
"I've long admired Dungog Shire for its scenic beauty and friendly, relaxed way of life. I'm grateful for the opportunity to join this brilliant community," Mr Ryan said.
"The General Manager has already set a clear direction for the future within the community, I'm keen to help bring this vision to fruition."
