Suffering two injuries in the first 10 minutes of their first game and another in the start of the second half, the Dungog Boomerangs are struggling to bounce back due to a shortage of players.
Coach Andre Stengl is at a loss with how to approach the situation.
"It's unknown territory for me, I've had to deal with that," Coach Stengl said.
When coaching the All Age men's team, Stengl tries to give back to the community and give the team a coach that he would like to be coached by.
"I have always enjoyed being coached by people who were enthusiastic with soccer and I felt like it was time to put back," Stengl said.
The All Age side has a diverse group of players with people from 18 years old to 50 years old playing, according to Stengl.
"We have a wide range of age, fitness and skill sets, so the team itself needs a fair bit of coaching. I think fitness is the biggest thing for us, being able to stay on the pitch for 90 minutes and keep all in one piece," Stengl said.
This has been made all the more difficult as player numbers have dwindled due to injury and sickness.
Being struck with a number of washed out games, the Boomerangs were able to pull together and field a team of 12 for their first game.
However after three injuries in the first game the team is left in a critical state.
If they are unable to find players the team may have to fold, according to Dungog Soccer Club president Karyn Marsh.
"If they don't fill the side up they can either continue to play with nine players or we can pull the team which means the club gets fined $1500," Ms Marsh said.
One of the big reasons new players are hesitant to join is the sign up fee, according to Stengl. In a last ditch effort to get more players, the club has offered memberships at a discounted rate.
"At the moment our fees are $260 for all ages, but we're willing for six positions to come down to $130, which the club will have to fundraise to cover," Ms Marsh said.
Both the club and the coach are working together to try to fill up their team in the next few weeks before a decision regarding the teams future is made, however it is clear that both want the team to stay afloat.
