May remains stood down by the Panthers after being handed a breach notice last week for a social media post after the grand final.

The post included a photo of him outside a court in 2019 after pleading guilty to four counts of intentionally recording an intimate image without consent.

In it, May quoted a Drake song, writing: "And the dirt that they threw on my name turned to soil and I grew up out it. Time for y'all to figure out what y'all gon' do about it."

The 25-year-old was fined $7500 by the NRL over the post that "did not align with the values of the game" and Penrith directors will now weigh up whether to punish him further.

It came as part of a week of grand final controversy for the Panthers on social media which raised the ire of club director and legendary halfback Greg Alexander.

"There have been a couple of social media things that haven't impressed me," Alexander told SEN earlier this month, without specifically referring to May's post.

"I think a couple of our players need to pull their heads in on social media.

"It gets a bit out of control. I don't follow social media. I've had people tell me about what's been posted. Some of it shouldn't have been.

"It was a bit out of line."

If May is sacked, it will be a sorry end to a stint at the club that promised so much.

He was one of the stars of Penrith's 2015 and 2016 Holden Cup sides, winning the title in 2015 and named the five-eighth of the year the following season.

He earned an NRL debut in 2017 as a local junior, but missed the entire 2019 season while stood down due to the sex-tapes scandal.

May came off the bench and played 13 minutes in this year's grand final win over South Sydney.
