Michael Johnsen MP, Member for Upper Hunter announced the upgrade this week.

Mr Johnsen said both Dungog and Merriwa showgrounds will get upgrades to improve their facilities and infrastructure while supporting local work.

"It's fantastic to report that the stimulus program will back more improvement works in the region while supporting jobs and local economies," Mr Johnsen said.

"Our regional communities will benefit from better showground facilities and stronger infrastructure that can serve generations into the future."

The $179,795 for Dungog Showground is for accessibility improvements to its kiosk and viewing area in its main arena including disabled parking, ramp access, and a covered viewing area to ensure all can participate in local events.

"This latest funding follows the allocation of over $3.481 million in stimulus funding last financial year for upgrade work at Muswellbrook, Quirindi, Stroud, Gloucester, Dungog, Gresford and Singleton showgrounds," Mr Johnsen said.

"The COVID-19 stimulus program has now allocated a total of $35.77 million to showground improvement projects across the state."

"The Nationals in Government have provided $23.27 million last financial year to support upgrades at 152 showgrounds and now a further $12.5 million has been allocated for this financial year to support more work at 76 showgrounds."

"So far the COVID-19 stimulus program has supported over 1,330 jobs on showground projects across the state providing work for tradespeople, suppliers and fabricators, and this further $12.5 million will support more improvements and jobs.

"The NSW Government values the central role of our local showgrounds in regional communities and we are thrilled to work hand-in-hand with them to build a more vibrant showground sector," Mr Johnsen concluded.
