Maitland Battery World's Katie Hallinan is not only going to join the carollers in song but has also come up with a creative way to help support the event: donating 1000 battery powered candles to organisers to help kick along the festivities.
"This can be a tough time of year for many people and events like this, where everyone is welcome, can be just the tonic for many people feeling isolated in the community," said Ms Hallinan.
"We are of course in the business of batteries so when we saw these candles were available, we jumped at the opportunity to buy them, even though at the time we were not quite sure what we would do with them.
"They are great for children so there are no burns from hot wax and won't blow out if it's windy.
"And it means we can light the life of someone who is doing it tough this time of year.
"Across Australia all of our business owners are buying candles to donate to various charities to raise funds for all sorts of causes and events: it's just one small thing we can do to ensure our communities stay connected."
The Paterson Rotary Christmas Carols are on December 22 at John Tucker Park starting at 6.30pm.
Paterson Club of Rotary president Cath Varcoe said support from local businesses was essential to ensure the tradition of community events.
"With all the bushfires and the dry conditions, the Battery World candles are the perfect solution to bring the traditional glow of candlelight to a hot and dusty Christmas gathering under the trees," Ms Varcoe said.
"We will be handing them out to the children and families who come along to our Carols evening.
"The little candles are such a great idea for so many reasons.
"Our carols cannot happen without the support from local business groups like Battery World, Maitland and we are grateful to them for being so community focused."
