It could be expected that, after a hugely hectic European season it would be time to take a break from speedway competition and enjoy a "back home" Aussie summer.
But former Australian Speedway Solo Champion Rohan Tungate is having none of that.
Tungate is back in Australia after one of his busiest professional speedway seasons to date competing in the British and Polish speedway leagues.
He was scheduled to begin his 2019/2020 Australian campaign two weeks ago at an international speedway solo event at Gillman Speedway in South Australia. An unexpected delay in travel arrangements forced the Pelaw Main rider to cancel the engagement.
But soon after finally touching down in Australia, Tungate made some frantic last minute arrangements to compete at the international speedway event at Mildura on the weekend.
With the help of his local sponsor Valley Kitchens, he not only met his commitment to the event, but he scored a very impressive victory with victory over a field including several European riders.
Tungate now turns his attention to the 2019 NSW Speedway Solo Championship to be held at Kurri Kurri Speedway on Saturday night
Tungate won the state championship in 2016 and comes up against one of the highest quality fields in the chase for the prestigious championship in several years.
Jack Holder (Appin) will defend the title he won last year in Cowra and like Tungate he got his Australian campaign off to a winning start with victory in the inaugural Oceania Speedway Solo Championship at Gillman Speedway a few weeks ago.
Former World Speedway Champion and multiple Australian Speedway Solo Champion, Chris Holder is also in the lineup. He has won the NSW title on five occasions.
A strong contingent of local riders make up the quality field for this year's title including Josh Pickering (Heddon Greta), Jye Etheridge (Buttai) and Josh Macdonald (Cessnock). All three have just completed riding in Britain. Other local riders competing are Kane Lawrence (Newcastle) and Isaac Hawes (Cessnock).
