A Queensland woman visiting Dungog for the Dave Sands memorial fundraiser at the weekend will give a talk at the CWA Hall on Thursday.

Leona Landers is a descendant of the Mulinjahli and Waka Waka of South East Queensland. Her father Dave Landers was a champion boxer in Queensland who attended Dave Sands' funeral. She is coming to Dungog for the first time for the fundraiser and to meet Mr Sands' family.
Leona has had 25 years experience in national and foreign policy, covering Indigenous, UN, gender and trade and economic issues.
As an Australian diplomat, Leona served in Canada and Trinidad and Tobago and represented Australia at international conferences and forums.
Leona was a member of the Secretariat for the Aboriginal Reconciliation Council from 1992-1995.
She is currently a Director of MALPA, which is a grass roots organisation focused on improving primary health care and well-being within Aboriginal communities whose approach is a culturally derived and driven, school-based, curriculum-aligned, health and well-being project for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students in years 3-4 and years 5-6.
The community is warmly invited to the CWA Hall for Thursday evening November 14 at 5.30pm for an hour or so to listen to her story.
