It's a sporting coup for the shire with the Gresford team narrowly missing the play offs by five shots.

For Clarence Town the victory is extra sweet with the Grade 7 team winning the club's first Saturday/weekend Pennant .

Clarence Town won the 7-3 section during the year which allowed them to compete in the playoff section for the flag against Singleton and Aberdeen.

"Our first game was at Scone on a cold freezing morning on Saturday, 25th May," said the Club's Secretary Manager Shaun Gordon.

"We came away with the win against Singleton 73 to 53 which then allowed us to have the afternoon off and we returned on the Sunday to play Aberdeen.

"We only had to win the master board for the result of Clarence Town winning it first ever Weekend Flag.

"We beat Aberdeen 63 to 59 which then allowed Clarence Town to come away with the Flag."

The club is off to state at Nelson Bay Bowling Club from July 26-28.

Dungog's pennants team will play off in the state championships at Port Macquarie in Grade 4.

The Dungog team is Ken Russell, Allan Golledge, Arnold Roberts, Wayne Perrin, Phil Reeves, Mark Thomas, Malcolm McDonald, Terry Doosey, John Middlebrook, Stephen Nielson, Paul Robards and Peter Osmond. Reserves are Allan Fisher and John Martin and Tony Skimmings is the manager.
