The Bought To Support range of boomerang bags, produce bags, cutlery tote bags and beeswax wraps will all be available at Gresford's Billy Cart Derby as well as outside the Local Growers Markets in Dowling Street from 8.30am on April 20.
"Our message and work for awareness of the plastic pollution problem and our impact on the natural world is Choose to Use Reusables, Reduce Waste and Recycle best practice," said Michelle Dado-Millynn.
"When we work together as a community - council, businesses, schools and households - we do make a difference and become a role model for others to follow.
"This same approach is what we bring to our work for Single Use Plastic Free Dungog (SUPFD) in July this year.
"We have a fantastic opportunity to lead the way in our region and beyond by modelling this grassroots community initiative. "
SUPFD is working with and asking the community to be involved in whatever way they can.
"Businesses and consumers can choose to reduce their waste and not use single use disposable plastic bags, cups, bottles and straws wherever they can. Paper, hemp, ceramic, metal and glass options are available. We are looking at a closed loop solution for take away coffee cups as well as encouraging using your own reusable bags, water bottles and cups and providing best practice recycling options," Ms Dado-Millynn said.
The SUPFD Team is planning a signature Sustainability Spotlight on Dungog free community event on Sunday, May 26 at The James Theatre from 3 to 6pm.
"This will showcase the many businesses and community groups in our shire who are actively working for sustainable best practices," said Ms Dado-Millynn.
"We have a great story to tell as we put a spotlight on our town and present a message of positive pro-action of what we can do when we work together; it's a win/win for the environment and the local economy.
"The time is now to be responsible in the choices we make as governments, businesses and households - our kids and the planet's interconnected futures are depending on all of us to make ethical, sustainable choices."
