Planning is well under way for The Dungog Tea Party to be held August 20-25.
The event is expected to attract an influx of tea enthusiasts to the area for the Tea Cosy Challenge, trivet competition and tea tastings.
The popular Morpeth tea pot and tea cosy festival was held for the last time in 2017 and now Dungog has taken up the reins to run a slightly different version of the event.
Campbell's Store owner Trevor Richards and his wife Shirley had run the Morpeth event since 1987. It was a 10-day event with more than 1500 vessels on display.
The tea cosy challenge will be held in the historic James Theatre and promises to showcase a treasure trove of talent.
The tea cosies can be knitted, crocheted or sewn and made of any material with the creators vying for a $500 cash prize and the Tea Cosy of the Year accolade.
The categories include the themes of Country Capers, Rivers to the Sea, Spring into Spring, Superheroes, Australiana and Paddock to the Plate.
A treasured memories category can include a hand made cosy or you can enter your favourite antique or vintage cosy. you own.
Lorraine Laverty whose creations won numerous awards at Morpeth over many years will not enter the Dungog competition but will have some of her cosies on display and for sale during the event.
The trivet creators will also vie for cash prizes and trivet of the year honours.
Categories include timber, metal, fabric, recycled materials and novelty. There's also a treasured memories category where you can enter your favourite antique or vintage trivet, which does not have to be made by the contestant.
Get creating as entries must be delivered by July 21. Nominations forms are available on the Dungog Tea Party website and the event also has a Facebook page.
