Despite his protestations that he didn't want a fuss, Merv was the guest of honour in his Dungog home for the celebrations on Wednesday, March 27.
The World War 2 pilot married his wife Jean in 1947 and they moved into Verge Street around 1960. Jean passed away in 2003. They had two daughters, Brenda Hogg who lives in Paterson and Jill Teare from Lorn, along with seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Merv, who had a dairy farm and later ran beef cattle on a farm at Wallarobba (which he only sold four years ago) was active in various dairy industry organisations. He has also been an active member of the Dungog RSL sub-branch and bowling club.
Merv still lives in his own home and enjoys solving a crossword puzzle every day and keeping up to date with news and current affairs.
