Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie today announced Federal funding towards the $868,000 project under round three of the Building Better Regions Fund.
"I am pleased to announce that council has been successful in securing the $434,000 in Federal funding required to get this project underway," Dr Gillespie said.
"It's a great community project which will deliver a number of economic and social benefits for Dungog and I'm delighted to be able to have played a role in helping it get off the ground."
Dr Gillespie said Dungog council's ongoing community place making consultation had identified a need to enhance existing public amenities in the Central Business District.
"This project will provide accessibility connections, seating landscaping, signage, street furniture, recycling options, designated parking areas including timed parking for business accessibility, lighting for safety and the provision for pedestrian management," Dr Gillespie said.
"It will give the main street a real lift, giving it an even more vibrancy.
"This will also be enhanced through environmental friendly options including trees that are native species to the area providing a natural setting and access to open space with the overall design reflecting the strong cultural and heritage links of the area."
Dr Gillespie said the highly successful Building Better Regions Fund had been developed by The Nationals to support regional communities by investing in important local infrastructure, as well as community-building and planning initiatives.
