That's the aim behind the The Lioness Club of Dungog's donation of Trauma Teddies to the local police, ambulance and Dungog Hospital.
The emergency services workers or hospital can then give these cuddly teddies to children and young people who have suffered a trauma to their lives.
This includes trauma such as being involved in a serious car accident, their home being burglarised, about to undergo an operation, involved in a violent or abusive situation, or any other bad experience.
"Having the soft cuddly toy to cuddle is a good distraction to the trauma, and gives them a sense of security in a time of need," said Lioness President Jane Levick.
"It’s a great feeling to give back to our community, and over the years, the club has donated many Trauma Teddies to our emergency services.
"In saying that, it sadly takes a traumatic event for these little ones to go through, to receive a teddy, but if our gift alleviates some of the stress and anxiety that they are suffering, then it has been worthwhile."
New members are always welcome. If you would like to know more about the Lioness Club, you can contact Jane Levick on 0400668019 or Joyce Byron on 49921164.
