The school’s Year 5 students workshopped ideas and then helped paint the mural with the guidance of the creative youth mentors from Up&Up, Faith Curtis and Shane Kennedy.

The Year 5s, the emerging school leaders, then mentored year 1 students while working on the project.

The bright wall in the parent drop off and pick up area features a nod to the area’s history with the Friend Ship based on the William IV steamship built in Clarence Town.

The school’s new mascot Tawny, sparked by the Tawny Frogmouths at the school, is also featured. Tawny is the mascot for the school’s Positive Behaviour Learning (PBL) values of Learning, Respect and Safety.

PBL is a program which contributes to developing a positive, safe and supportive learning culture. Clarence Town is in its 10^th year of PBL which Principal Louise Blakemore says they are quite proud of.

Mrs Blakemore said anti-bullying messages were taking on a more positive approach.

“We are focusing on what we can do to look out for our friends, how we can be respectful,” she said.

“The spot where the mural is, one of the first things you see when you come in to the school sends a clear message straight away, this is what we are all about here.”

Up&Up were a huge hit at the school last year when they helped the children work on the canteen mural.
