Cessnock speedway rider Alan Macdonald finished as equal top scorer for his team yet it wasn’t enough to score victory in the 2019 Tex Macdonald Forever Young Trophy event at Kurri Kurri Speedway on Saturday night.

Macdonald’s team included German International Erik Riss and Queensland’s duo Zaine and Declan Kennedy as they took on their opponents led by his brother Josh Macdonald.
Both Alan Macdonald and Riss scored 10 points each from their five rides but their efforts were in vain, falling well short of their opponents’ tally.
Former Australian speedway solo champion, Sam Masters was in superb form scoring a maximum 12 points from his four rides.
He was ably supported by Jye Etheridge (10 points) and Mason Campton (9 points) taking the Josh Macdonald team to a convincing win.
“That’s three from three,” said team captain Josh Macdonald at the trophy presentation – making reference to his team winning all three times the trophy in his father’s honour has been contested under the team format.

It was the last competitive event for local riders Sam Masters and Jye Etheridge before they return to Great Britain to resume their contracts in the British Speedway League.
Masters will compete in the Premiership League with Wolverhampton Wolves and Etheridge will line up with Berwick Bandits in the Championship League.
“I leave on Thursday,” said Etheridge, “and in one way I’m not looking forward to going back. It’s been minus 6 degrees in Great Britain and that’s a big difference from the temperatures of the Australian summer. It’ll be a lot of work in the gym for a while,” he added.
The Kurri Kurri Speedway Club will wind up its Summer Carnival this coming Saturday night when it hosts the 2019 NSW Senior Speedway Sidecar Championship as well as the 2019 NSW Junior titles.
Speedway Sidecar Championship. The Club has received a full field of sixteen nominations for the Senior Championship and these have been sent to the Motorcycling NSW Speedway Commission for ratification.
The high class field includes 10-time Australian and multiple NSW champion Darrin Treloar and his passenger Jesse Headland who won the 2018 title with Treloar.
New Zealand star Andrew Buchanan and local passenger Denny Cox and Brad Pit and Nathan McFadden will be among the stiffest rivals for the this year’s title.
The Bond and Cox families dominate the Hunter contingent of partnerships with strong title hopes led by former NSW champions and patriarchs Grant Bond and Glenn Cox.
Liam Cox is passenger for Hamish Goulding and Hayden Bond and Brady Cox continuing their successful pairing.
Kurri Kurri Speedway Club takes a break for March before launching the 2019 Club Championships in April.
