Of Dungog High School’s 49 Year 12 students this year, 34 sat for the HSC exams returning some of the best results the school has seen in years.
The results included seven band 6s – a mark over 90 – and two notional band 6s for students achieving a high mark in an extension course.
Abigail Pritchard was named as both a Top Achiever and a Distinguished Achiever in the Honour Roll.
The 17-year-old placed seventh in the state in Hospitality and received a band 6 for that subject along with a band 6 for both business studies and personal development health and physical education (PDHPE).
Joshua Benhard received a band 6 for industrial technology, Monique Kerr for biology and Tara Tolhurst for PDHPE.
Harry Wheeler received a band 6 in physics and a notional band 6 for mathematics.
Ziz O’Brien Cavanough received a notional band 6 for mathematics.
The school’s success rate this year was 3.63 per cent compared to last year’s 1.74 per cent.
Principal Janene McIntosh said the results were a combination of hard work practice and excellent teaching and learning.
“We are all so proud, the whole school is buzzing with excitement from the news,” she said.
“As the principal I am delighted that our school has excelled across all subjects we deliver at HSC level representing the high quality teaching, learning and leadership across our school.”
The school’s 2018-2020 plan has a focus on improving Year 12 results.
“These results are evidence that what we are doing is working to achieve excellent student outcomes,” said Ms McIntosh.
